Grace

Okay, for anyone that reads this regularly, I'm sorry for not posting lately. I just wanted to relate a really cool story. So last Friday night, a whole bunch of us here at NCSU decide that we want to go to IHOP for dinner. We get in our cars, head over there, get seated, order, and prepare to eat. In walks a man with his little girl. Apparently one of the girls eating with us taught this little girl how to swim, so she goes over to say hello. By this point, our food has come, and 11 hungry college students are chowing down on everything from hasbrowns to coutry fried steak. We're finishing up when the waiter walks over and asks, "Which one of you knew that gentlemen and his little girl?" So we all point to our friend, thinking they had left something behind and the waiter wanted to make sure they got it back. The waiter looks at my friend, smiles, and says, "He just paid for this whole table's food."

We're floored.

On the way back to campus, another friend of mine speaks up while we're talking about what just happened. We can't believe what just happened and we all wish there was something we could do to repay him.

"That's exactly what [God's] grace is like," my friend says.

And it's so true. Free, unexpected, and there's nothing we can do to repay it. The only thing we can do is accept it and let it change us.

Hello from the past!

I just posted all of my old material from my previous attempts at doing the blog/journal thing. In case it's not clear, anything labeled "Old School" is old stuff. After a nice, but long day, I'm headed for the bed.

Last of the Mohicans

If you haven't seen it, see it. Otherwise, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

CHINGACHGOOK: The frontier moves with the sun and pushes the red man of the wilderness forests in front of it. Until one day there will be nowhere left. Then our race will be no more, or be not us ... The frontier place is for people like my white son and his woman and their children.
HAWKEYE: That's my father's sadness talking.
CHINGACHGOOK: No. It is true ... One day ... there will be no more frontier. Then men like you will go, too. Like the Mohicans. [pause] And new people will come. Work. Struggle. Some will make their life... But once, we were here.

Greedo didn't shoot first and Vader's young?

Ahh, controversy. That which feeds the airwaves, cable lines, and digital satellite up-links. If you don't understand the title of this entry, go here. Let me just say that I'm happy that Greedo doesn't shoot first but upset that Christensen's been put in at the end of Return of the Jedi. Well, I'll probably still line Lucas' pockets as I either purchase or receive the DVD set for my birthday. But I'll grumble every time the scene is shown. Oh well, back to the real world for me.

Worst (I mean first) post ever...

So I just spent the last 30 seconds going through the fonts available on this thing. Hope that isn't foreshadowing of things yet to come. Anyway, I'll try to put profound things up here, but that probably won't happen often. Well, I'll be back later, hopefully with something more to say.
